Essential Spring Cleaning Tips for Renters
Spring is in full swing! Get your apartment ready for the season with these spring cleaning tips.
- Get rid of anything you don’t need. The first step in spring cleaning should always be ousting any extra clutter. Donate clothing, kitchen items, and anything else you don’t use on a regular basis to your local thrift store or charity. If you’re not sure what to get rid of, here’s a tip for your closet. Turn all of your hangers in the same direction then, when you wear an item of clothing, hang it back up with the hanger facing the opposite way. After a few weeks, you’ll be able to see what hasn’t been touched!
- Turn to clever hacks for help. Not sure how to tackle a certain cleaning project? The internet might have some ideas. For example, if you have lots of stuck-on grime in your microwave, here’s an easy way to attack it. Fill a bowl with water and a couple of tablespoons of vinegar, then microwave it on high for a few minutes. Even the toughest gunk will be easy to wipe away afterward.
- Start small. Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t go crazy trying to clean your entire apartment at once! Pick a room to focus on first and dedicate a couple of hours to it, then move on to the next task. Keep going this way until your entire abode is sparkling.
- Remember those oft-forgotten areas. Some of the germiest places in your home are out of sight. For example, the inside of your trash can is probably harboring a lot of bacteria. Take this opportunity to wash it out completely or wipe it down with disinfecting wipes. The same goes for the inside of your fridge, the interiors of your kitchen cabinets, and any other areas in your home that see a lot of action!
